About the topic:
Pediatric autoimmune encephalitis is an increasingly recognized cause of encephalopathy in children, characterized by seizures, neuropsychiatric symptoms, movement disorders, and autonomic dysfunction resulting from immune-mediated brain inflammation. Building on our prior session focused on clinical presentation and diagnostic approach, this session will focus on the management of pediatric autoimmune encephalitis, with particular emphasis on the role and interpretation of antibody testing, neuroimaging, and current strategies for managing both typical and refractory cases.
Learning Objectives:
1. Provide a practical, evidence-informed approach to first-line and escalation therapy in pediatric autoimmune encephalitis (AIE)
2. Review strategies for refractory disease, including timing and treatment selection
3. Discuss types of autoantibody testing within autoimmune encephalitis
4. Clarify the role and limitations of autoantibody testing in clinical decision-making
