About Topic
In this talk, Dr. Lysecki will explore the concept of Neuro-irritability: a clinical phenomenon experienced by many children with complex neurologic disorders. Informed by literature and clinical experience, this talk will define neuro-irritability, as well as, importantly, differentiate ‘neuro-irritability’ from its oft-confused sibling: ‘irritability in a child with neurologic condition’ which may stem from a variety of physical, psychological, or emotional sources. This talk will review risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnosis, counselling, management, and prognosis.
Learning Objectives
After attending this talk, participants should be able to:
- Provide a working definition of neuro-irritability in both medical terminology as well as to use with families
 - Understand the diagnostic process and steps to rule out other sources of irritability
 - Create a symptom management plan for neuro-irritability
 - Connect the presentation of neuro-irritability and its place in a child’s larger illness journey
