Dr. Serini Murugasen is an early-career child neurologist based in Cape Town, South Africa. She
holds multiple positions within the province and nationally, including paediatric neurologist at
tertiary public and private hospitals, specialist paediatrician at a district hospital and senior
lecturer at the University of Cape Town. In addition, she is involved in research and education
projects in child neurology nationally, with a special interest in genetic epilepsies. Dr
Murugasen has a proven dedication to clinical paediatric neurology, as well as undertaking and
expanding research capacity within the African context, holding three Masters degrees herself
in paediatric medicine and public health. She is passionate about public health research
informed by clinical practice to improve care for all children across Africa, including those with
chronic neurological conditions.
