About Topic:
Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy refers to the sudden, unexplained death of an individual with epilepsy, often occurring during or after a seizure. The exact cause is not fully understood, but it's believed to involve a combination of factors, including respiratory or cardiac dysfunction triggered by seizures.
SUDEP is relatively rare but is a serious risk for people with uncontrolled epilepsy, particularly those with generalised tonic-clonic seizures. The risk can be reduced with better seizure control and other interventions like regular monitoring and medication adjustments.
Individuals with epilepsy need to work closely with healthcare providers to manage
their condition and reduce risks.
Learning Objectives:
To review the literature on the management of SUDEP, to present clinical cases of SUDEP.
To understand the possible physiopathology of these cases and the role of the autonomic system and neurotransmitters.
To overview the wearables for monitoring and the neuro-ethics aspects.
